Overt armour is worn over clothes and is clearly recognised as a deterrent to assailants. It is generally more comfortable than covert styles, and is the preferred option for police & security officers.
It is also a superior method of protection when the risk is deemed intermittent rather than constant. Many body armour wearers may only be a risk at certain times during their working shift. The ability to remove it easily whist driving, dining or during office duties makes the overt option more desirable than coverts in most instances.
